Find Out If You’re Eligible

Did you know there are all kinds of factors that would make you ineligible for an abortion procedure? Abortion isn’t an option for you if you:

  • Have an intrauterine device (IUD) currently in place.
  • Have a suspected pregnancy outside of the uterus. This is called ectopic pregnancy.
  • Have certain medical conditions. These include bleeding disorders; certain heart or blood vessel diseases; severe liver, kidney or lung disease; or an uncontrolled seizure disorder.
  • Take a blood thinner or certain steroid medicines.
  • Can’t make follow-up visits to your provider or don’t have access to emergency care.
  • Have an allergy to the medicine used.

InGather formation About Your Pregnancy

If you’re considering abortion, it’s crucial you get key details about your pregnancy so you can make an informed choice beforehand. That’s why you need an ultrasound.

An ultrasound tells you the location of your pregnancy. This is important to rule out an ectopic pregnancy, a condition that calls for immediate medical intervention an abortion wouldn’t solve.

Also, an ultrasound will let you know how far along you are or your gestational age. You’ll need to know this to determine which type of abortion procedure you qualify for, as the abortion pill is only approved through 10 weeks gestation.

Lastly, you’ll want to know the viability of your pregnancy. 26% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, and again, abortion wouldn’t be the right course of action in this case.

You may need miscarriage management treatment, and with an ectopic pregnancy, urgent medical care is required. But these procedures aren’t an elective abortion that terminates a viable pregnancy.
