Free Ultrasounds
Once you have a positive test result, we might want to confirm your pregnancy with an ultrasound. At Desert Rose Women’s Resource Center, we offer free and confidential limited obstetrical ultrasounds.
Why Do I Need An Ultrasound?
A positive result on an at-home or clinical pregnancy test doesn’t give you all the answers you need.
You need to have an ultrasound to learn…
- How far along you are in your pregnancy. If you are considering abortion, the gestational age (length of time you have been pregnant) determines the abortion procedure. Can you use the abortion pill method or will you require surgery?
- If your pregnancy is viable (growing). Up to 20% of known pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. It is possible to get a positive pregnancy test but no longer be pregnant. It takes your body time to readjust from pregnancy hormones.
- The location of your pregnancy. Some pregnancies are ectopic. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a pregnancy implants and begins growing outside the uterus. If not detected, it could result in dangerous physical consequences.
What Is An Ultrasound?
Obstetric ultrasound is a procedure that creates images of your uterus from high-frequency sound waves. Our sonographer applies a gel substance to your abdomen and rubs a wand-like instrument called a transducer through the gel.
The echoes of the sound waves form an image on a computer screen. The sonographer will explain what you see throughout the procedure and listen for a viable heartbeat. A medical doctor then reviews all ultrasounds.
Our ultrasounds are painless and discreet. They are performed in a private ultrasound room by a licensed medical professional known as a sonographer.
