Your First Step

If you are considering abortion, scheduling a confidential pre-abortion appointment at one of our Centers can help you gather important information about your pregnancy before making a decision.

At your appointment:

• You receive a free laboratory-quality pregnancy test to confirm your pregnancy.
• If you are pregnant, you receive a free ultrasound performed by a licensed sonographer. An ultrasound can provide important information, including how far along the pregnancy is.
• You have an opportunity to learn more about abortion procedures, possible side effects and risks, and other pregnancy options.
• You can ask questions and take the time you need to consider the information you receive.

Having accurate information about your pregnancy can help you better understand the options available to you when considering abortion.

Abortion Patient Rights

If you decide to pursue an abortion, it is important to ask questions about the provider, procedure, and what will happen if you experience a complication. Protecting your health includes understanding your rights and advocating for yourself.

You can ask:

• Whether the physician performing the procedure is currently licensed.
• Whether the physician has been subject to professional disciplinary action.
• About the physician’s history of medical malpractice claims, when that information is available.
• Whether the physician or facility carries medical malpractice insurance.
• What emergency procedures are in place if you experience a serious complication and whether you would be transferred to an appropriate hospital or trauma center if necessary.

Before any medical procedure, you should also have an opportunity to understand what will happen, discuss potential risks and side effects, and have your questions answered.
